The Story Behind Island Web Assistant

Founder of Island Web Assistant — Vancouver Island web designer creating affordable websites for local small businesses

Hi — I’m Alexey Polishchuk, founder of Island Web Assistant and a proud Vancouver Island resident since 2023.

Before I started building websites, I worked with my hands:
at sawmills, carpentry shops, landscaping crews, solar installs — and I worked hard. I also worked in sales and management for years before coming to Canada. So I know both sides of the small business coin: the daily hustle, and the challenge of getting noticed.

After moving to Ladysmith in 2023, I saw a familiar pattern:
great local businesses with strong work ethic — but no online presence, or worse, websites that were outdated, slow, or invisible. Some relied only on word of mouth. And for a while, that worked. But then the phones stopped ringing.
I saw it firsthand in landscaping.

One of my former managers — a great team leader — told me that once they finally launched their website and cleaned up their social media, long-term clients started reaching out every month. A few simple online tools made a big difference.
That’s what inspired me to act.
